Anyone else feel like the summer holidays have completely knocked them out of their routine?
I’m coming back from the holidays feeling slightly over-indulged, under-exercised and, if I’m honest, a little flat. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying the ice creams, long lunches, late nights and general holiday indulgence—but after weeks of it, I’m ready to feel like myself again.
And that’s why, for me, the start of the school year feels like a second New Year. A chance to reset, get back into some good habits and, most importantly, feel better in myself.
So, rather than making grand resolutions for January, I’m making a few small ones now—and putting them here so the Klick family can keep me accountable!
-
Get up 30 minutes earlier – for some sunlight, my meditation, my five-minute journal and a calmer start to the day.
-
Move three times a week – strength training, walking, running or Pilates. I’ve also signed up for Pilates Reformer, so there’s no escaping now! I might even give into my husband's badgering and give Padel a try!
-
Cook something new and healthy each week – because taking care of myself also means taking care of what I’m putting into my body, especially after all that indulgence (and hopefully getting the family to enjoy it too!).
-
Read for 20 minutes every day – I genuinely love reading, so this is less of a resolution and more of a promise to myself to make time for something I love.
-
Surrender more – Lagos can sometimes feel like a constant battle, and juggling motherhood, marriage and family can add to the pressure. I’m learning that not everything is in my control. Sometimes, I just need to let go, breathe and remember: if it doesn’t work out, it’s OK.
Because I’m realising that taking care of yourself as a mum isn’t selfish—it’s essential. When my own cup is fuller, I have so much more to pour into everyone else. I feel better, I’m happier, and somehow the whole house runs a little better too.
So here’s to my September reset: less pressure, more intention and feeling like me again.
